The Town of Philipstown desperately needed a new Highway Garage so we knocked the old one down and designed and built them a new one. Much easier said than done but worth every minute. The former building was so badly deteriorated that it needed to be removed and replaced. With a tight site and antiquated infrastructure, the enlarged new building was placed in the original location but needed to be nestled into a rocky, steep slope.
Le Corbusier coined the phrase “A house is a machine for living” in 1927. Today we say that the new Town of Philipstown Highway Department Headquarters is ‘a machine for working’. It is our hope that our great-grandchildren will be able to continue to utilize this structure and to continue keeping our roads safe and the snow plowed in the winter.
